      Considering the impact nuke had on Imperial Japan’s surrender, I wonder how things would have looked in Asia if US dropped them a bit sooner. Would Soviet had time to occupy North Korea? Would CCP still win the civil war? I do wonder about that..

      Edit: It was indeed the name given to that design of nuclear weapon. I stand corrected.

      Absolutely crazy that we went from the (widespread) introduction of cartridge based repeating weaponry (1870-80s) to the atomic bomb (1945), in about 60 years. From a person being able to kill dozens of people to a person being able to kill hundreds of thousands, in less than a single lifespan. [For comparison, the last verified US civil war veteran died almost 11 years to the day AFTER the US dropped these.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Woolson)

      Edit- for a real mindscrew, someone had to explain to people who experienced 23k casualties at place like Gettysburg or Antietam over several days, and was considered some of the bloodiest battles in the nations history at that point, that their nation created a weapon that killed estimates of around 135k people, in a couple of seconds/minutes.

      Fun fact: Imperial Japan was killing 250k civilians a month for the last 48 months before the atomic bomb was dropped.

      My dad was Army Air Corp in the Pacific theater, a radar tech on bombers made obsolete by the new B-29s. He was to be retrained for a rifle platoon to hit the beaches in the invasion of Japan. The bomb probably saved his life.
