This reminds me of when the USA was going to go into Afghanistan, remove the Taliban from power, install a „better“ government and leave. How did that work out again? Hamas will go underground, the hate for Israel that has been brewing for almost a century will remain. Gaza will be under military occupation for a decade. The arguments on both sides of the conflict will go on and on and on… It’s fucking sad

OK, so you don’t want Isreal taking over Gaza. Fine. What is your plan to get rid of Hamas then?

Many criticize this move, but they struggle to propose a better idea. What is the alternative?

If Israel withdraws from Gaza, Hamas will emerge from their tunnels and resume control over the area. This would lead to an even more intense blockade, which is clearly justified; without it, the situation on October 7th would have been much worse. The Egyptian border would also become stricter, as it already has.

No Arab governments are willing to accept refugees or to take charge during a transitional period. Investment and rebuilding in Gaza won’t occur at the necessary scale because no one wants to fund another Hamas-led government, except for Iran.

You can assign blame to Israel, but it finds itself stuck between a rock and a hard place regarding the next steps.

Ideally, Israel would occupy Gaza to the extent that Hamas could no longer exert political or military influence over the population. This occupation should last long enough to allow a peaceful political movement to emerge in Gaza, ideally under the stewardship of stable Arab states, the U.S., and Europe.

“I favor partition of the country because when we become a strong power after the establishment of the state, we will abolish partition and spread throughout all of Palestine.“

    10. This is such a clickbait title. What does it mean for any country to do anything? If they want to refer to a statement Netanyahu made they can quote him directly.
