Hier in Oregon haben wir eine extreme Hitzewache für zwei Tage der oberen 90er Jahre (nicht das heiße IMO). Ich bin auf eine ähnliche Hitzewelle in North Dakota gestoßen. Außer NOAA nennt es eine „Wärmeberatung“. Die gleichen Temperaturen, wenn nicht heißer dort. Der Punkt ist die subtile Veränderung der Wörter „Wärmeberatung“ und „extreme Wärmewache“ innerhalb von deutlich zwei unterschiedlichen Bereichen der politischen Kultur. Nur ein interessanter Fang.

Anything above 75 with no breeze is too hot for me. Your upper-90s (near 100) tolerability isn’t everyone else’s, and neither is my intolerance for moderate heat.
90s is definitely too hot in OR. It’s not supposed to get that hot here. I lived in the Midwest and 100 isn’t uncommon there. That’s probably the use of language.
The reason I love Oregon is it isn’t too hot. Should be 70s.
It’s all dependent on locale. Here in Cali 90s is very manageable, even 100 is fine for an hour or so, but those who aren’t from SoCal find it insufferable. It takes me about three days to a week to adjust to Asian humidity when I visit that side of the world too.

“Dangerous heat” is another term we hear in the NE. It’s summer time, of course it gets hot and heat illnesses can happen. WTF happened to this world?

I wonder if there’s a difference in the number of people that have air conditioners in the two places. Texas home builders don’t build homes with cold weather in mind so a day or two below freezing can be deadly where up north that weather would be considered mild.
Is it the same but backwards with Oregon? They’re built to deal with cold, but not heat?
It also depends on the head index. We recently had a heat wave here, the temps were in the 90s because the heat index was 115-120.

We have been having them in Texas too and this is one of the mildest summers in some time. But to be fair, many people are disadvantaged and do not have air conditioning or access to fresh clean water. Elderly people are very vulnerable during the heat, especially if there are black or brown outs. So on one hand it’s good, that there is some warning, but it feels nefarious that it’s across the board. I’m in Texas where it truly does get dangerously hot.
Come to Texas then tell me 90s is hot 😆

It’s hot in August. CONSPIRACY!! Where I’m at we have a heat advisory in 95-97 degrees today. The heat index, or how hot it feels, is a few degrees higher. That’s because there’s decently high humidity.
I’m also working outside. It’s fucking hot as fuck. There’s no gaslighting telling me to be careful out here.
It changes by region. For the same reason Phoenix doesn’t have a heat advisory for 108 but Wisconsin would advise people to stay inside. This isn’t rocket science.
Depends on factors, mainly humidity. On the east coast of nc, we had 98° with 90% of humidity, which brought the real feel up to 119° and zero wind. It was pretty rough

It’s for the locals who aren’t used to it. I moved from South Florida to New England abt a year and a half ago, beginning of the summer they gave us a half day paid off at work ending at 10am bc it was going to be 100. To me it wasn’t a problem, south florida has that like 150x a year but to my coworkers it sucked balls.
