I think Japan has been trying to get „good“ people to come here. Unfortunately, it seems like „good“ people under Japanese isn’t producing „good“ results.

First, invest in your domestic resources properly, from upgraded facilities to curriculum, and well-paid professors. Second, take the English language more seriously and make it mandatory language spoken at the research level (the very least). Finally, increase the wages for research students. Fuck Sanseito and their views on MEXT!

Japan: we want world class researchers, what can we do?!

World: Pay them better, address workplace culture issues, incentivize companies to move out of tokyo/embrace remote work?

Japan: Best i can do is slash living expense stipends for doctoral students who might be future researchers.

      Haha. They won’t come.

I assume most of these talents won’t have any specific interest/preference in Japan, so why would they choose somewhere they’ll just see as a very low salary and terrible English so need to learn Japanese.

      Japan: „We want you here!“

      *Raises middlefinger and smiles*

      Japan: „Please come to Japan!“

*Opens shirt to reveal a Fuck Gaijin shirt*

*Raises other hand to flip off with both hands.*

      Japan: „Please don’t even come.“
