      As easy as when you sell your property, the local, regional, or autonomous government will purchase it and it will belong to a collective pool of houses and apartments. The new buyers will buy it then from the government at a reduced price. But the lack of political will from most parties will perpetuate this and even exacerbate it till no locals can live there anymore. 🇪🇸 profunda

      Same in Tenerife, just few years ago I was planning to buy my place with something around 35k now I had to move from the island cause I couldn’t even afford a rent in a decent place. This shit is crazy.

      There are lots of Ibicencos becoming multimillionaires selling their houses in Jesus so they can be converted into apartments.

      This is what’s it’s like being born in a city, by the time it’s time to leave home, homes are out of your price reach for rent and purchase

      This also an exaggerated image which misses out many which are less than €600k

      Hope you secured one of those houses from inheritance from your parents or something so you can just sell it and happy days!

      For a non-Spaniard this is a double, Before tourism, there was only some agriculture and poverty. Tourism has brought prosperity to the island…
      It’s a difficult balance between attracting enough tourists and prosperity.
      The rising house prices are a negative result of this but chasing away the tourists creates mass unemployment and decay.

      My mother in law lost her family farm to Franco when it was decided that the town of Boix should no longer exist and that a man made lake be created instead (Pantano de Santa Ana).
      Somewhat recently, after filling out all of the reclamation forms, she was paid about €2,000, which was determined to be the value at the time it was taken.

      It cuts both ways – these rich incomers pricing locals out of the property market, come from somewhere – somewhere that you are free to move to in order to find work or get an education. In fact thousands of people before you moved away from their small home towns to find work.

      If you want to stop incomers moving in, you have to accept that you won’t be allowed to move out – fine if you have a well paid job you enjoy, not so fine if your horizons are bigger than the town boundaries.
