On Tuesday, President Trump said that he was considering raising tariffs on India in the next 24 hours. It came after the president wrote on Truth Social on Monday that “they [India] don’t care how many people in Ukraine are being killed by the Russian war machine”.

“India is not only buying massive amounts of Russian oil, they are then, for much of the oil purchased, selling it on the open market for big profits,” he wrote. Last week Trump announced an imposition of a 25% tariff on Indian imports to the US along with an unspecified “penalty” for purchasing Russian oil
