There’s a tariff of 15% on European car imports into the US, while US domestic manufacturers have to deal with up to 50% tariffs on their steel, aluminium and copper supplies.
He’s managed to make US domestic industry *less* competitive.
Of all the stupid tariff policies, this one really confuses me. These are life-saving medications. Does the US just not want these anymore?

You’d be surprised how stupid some of the ameican voting base is.
I work in an American multinational corp. I had a call today with a woman from my team whos an American. She’s annoyed at the possibility of botox going up in cost, but rather then being annoyed at the American policy’s being changed, she genuinely said why couldn’t Europe just play ball since it would be fairer for everyone.
So basically her stance was just let us do what we want it makes it easier for us
He can say what he wants. Big price increases are now coming over the next couple of months to the US and shit will hit the fan. Let’s see how long he lasts then
Trump is a bluffer. Imagine 250% Tarriffs on his own people who end up paying ? They might be prepared to accept a lot that Trump does, but even more expensive medicine ? Nah. The framework agreement actually has a clause that captures pharmaceutical under the 15% Tarriffs. He won’t say this, but there’s a clause in the agreement. That’s why the EU have pulled their retaliatory tariffs that were due to come into force on Wednesday. They know that the 15% on pharma is a done deal.
Trump is all fart and no shite.

The US is already one of the most expensive in the world for medications. What does this achieve for US consumers?
It’s not going to be good for Ireland. Already senior management in pharma are on edge. Companies will probably freeze any expansions, Competition will probably become stagnant which will drive less jobs and in turn freeze/less wages over next few years.
Because if there’s one thing Americans need it’s higher cost of medical.
I think a lot of people view Trump as a dictator, and I’m sure in some ways he does too, but the fact is that he is the easily manipulated play thing of corporations, with pharmaceutical manufacturers being a prime stakeholder. He’s not doing shit without being told to do it. Now, what he says, is different. That doesn’t matter. He can make himself look like an idiot all he wants as far as his owners go, but the paperwork has to be approved, and he’s not doing it. Pharma companies will go back to American production if it suits them, right now, it doesn’t.

Tariffs do nothing but increase costs for the consumer. Free trade is the way to go.
Trump is senile and won’t remember this by tomorrow. There’s no point in freaking out over someone that changes his mind depending on whether he’s had his daily Big Mac or not.

This will never happen unless the US can make the product themselves immediately. As soon as the consumer over there sees the price tag, Trump will be in trouble.

Hopefully the next president is somewhat normal, and looks to reinstate trade as they formerly were, to which the rest of the world should collectively reply: „Nah you’re grand thanks“

Pharma company’s sell internally to themselves in different country’s, it’s not a wholesale or retail market to a 3rd party. All they have to do is sell internally for less to get around the tariffs. Whole lot more practical than trying to move, find qualified staff, get manufacturing up to full compliance.
Saying that, they can have no impact from this and then just increase the sales prices for the hell of it to increase profits. Maybe that’s why corporations supported this mess?
Well that shows the value of the humiliating one-sided trade deal that Von der Leyen signed us all up to in the hope of achieving stability and certainty.
He also wants Pharma companies to drastically lower their prices in US. None of this makes any sense.
