      I don’t think I’m being hyperbolic here, but this is truly the last gasp of the current constitutional order. This is both parties signalling openly that they are done playing by the rules. Whoever gains power and wields it most effectively will the the ones to usher in the next paradigm. The Republicans obliviously have a gigantic advantage at the moment. The Democrats are going to need to buy in very strongly and very quickly in order to shift the advantage.

      The problem with the Republican paradigm of this „order“ that they want to Institute is that it fundamentally goes against the alleged dictates of their own worldview, not to mention speed runs the mistakes of the last 150 years that we all allegedly learned from.

      In other words if we were dealing with a classical American conservative, we’d be talking about somebody who values a small government, lower taxes, votes in line with religious principles, etc.

      Donald Trump and Maga are fascist. They don’t have morals, they have points that they try to score, for beliefs that they only hold when convenient, weather talking about friend or foe.

      A society cannot be governed that way. That is government by and for sociopaths. It will need a constant stream of enemies, will turn in on itself, and will destroy itself, but at great loss of life.

      When they tried to distill Nazism into its core after Nuremberg, they came upon a lack of empathy as a defining feature.

      These are people devoid of the ability for introspection. They are not swayed by evidence, they loathe education or being corrected for incorrect beliefs.

      As a guy who grew up around World War II and Korean War veterans, in a conservative home, this shit disgusts me to no end.

      We need to start calling this out as fascist. People within the last administration like mattis outright called it fascism, we need to do the same

      Just like it was in the Civil War, all the engines of commerce are in those blue enclaves. All of the ports. All of the international relations. All of the engines of commerce. All of the things that can create wealth. All of the expertise. All of the engineering. All of the healthcare and the medicine. All of the logistics hubs…

      These are the reasons the confederates got destroyed. They are all still present.

      These are the reasons the country has wealth and can exist in the first world. These confederates would be back to the economic Stone Age without their blue brothers and sisters.

      The confederates thought having a divider in chief would be so fun for them. But unless they like starving to death it will turn out not so fun for them.

      So this redistricting is obviously very evil and meant to be a power grab. But also, aren’t the existing lines pretty fucked up? Like the gerrymandering from the last 100 years was pretty horrible, and we need to redraw the lines in general to something fair. But I guess there’s no real science that doesn’t clearly have a winner and a loser

      WI was screwed in 2011 when the GOP gerrymandered the state and stole seats from the Democrats. Nearly 15 years late and Wisconsin, a 50/50 swing state, still maintains – 6 – GOP US House of Reps and 2 Democrats, yes 2 US House of Representatives in DC!!! WI Dems need to fight to gain back the Dems 2 Reps. WI should have Reps. 4 for the Democrats and 4 for GOP. This is an easy win of 2 more Democratic US House Reps.

      Should be a furious and meticulous accounting of all elections going forward. Should be mandatory hand recounts with representatives from both parties and third party observers in **every single election** in this country. School board, local, regional, national. Every single one.

      Everyone needs to understand that this is directly linked to the Callais case which is before the SCT. In that case there is a serious effort to make it impossible to enforce the Voter Rights Act. The court was supposed to decide the case in the term that just ended and instead ordered re argument. If the Voter Rights Act becomes unenforceable Republican legislatures will do what Texas is trying to do in every state they can. The future of the country depends on the Voter Rights Act blocking this racial gerrymandering.

      Thanks God the Supreme Court decided that gerrymandering doesn’t make a mockery of representative democracy. Otherwise our political leaders could be doing actually useful things instead of needlessly redistricting five years from the next census survey.

      Gerrymandering should be illegal for everyone. Period. However, unfortunately, it is legal.

      The Republicans are proudly boasting about weaponizing it and simultaneously complaining loudly that the Dems do it. If everyone involved were honest, non-hypocritical people who cared about America and democracy, they would come up with a bi-partisan plan to remove gerrymandering.

      That might be impossible, but that would be a real solution.

      America is broken and will change drastically in the next decade one way or another. Either the Republicans will take over and effectively eliminate democracy, or serious reform needs to happen to make sure this type of thing never ever happens again.

      There’s no guard rails for your system from the ground up. No fair representation for anyone not in power, whether that is Dems or Republicans. I agree that it’s just a completely corrupt power grab by the Texans and the GOP, but if this exists in the system, then it is just a broken process for everyone. I hope Newsome and the other blue states all do everything they can to combat this, but the electoral system just should not be allowing such corrupt gerrymandering. I really hope it comes back to bite the GOP, but my fear is they are better at cheating and far less concerned than the Dems
