We’re hearing that Israel is committing genocide on Palestinians but by figures tracking all fatalities in the past two years as long as births in Gaza, it’s clear that the Gazan population (if we add the 100,000 refugees who left due to war) is higher today than in was in 2023.

And this is even if we accept Hamas‘ own casualty figures (which are likely overstated).

I don’t think it’s a genocide in the original meaning of the word. The current legal definition of genocide can be applied to virtually any war at any time. It’s a well meaning but ultimately fruitless attempt to outlaw virtually all war. Medieval siege? Genocide. Blockade? Genocide. Submarine warfare? Genocide. Aerial bombing? Well you get the idea.

I do think the Israelis are planning on ethnic cleansing of the region.

Of courrse, the elected Gazan government has an open call to genocide in it’s foundational charter, in the classic meaning of the term – an exhortation to all Muslims that until they kill all the Jews ‚hiding behind every rock and tree‘ that no Muslim will ever go to heaven. Yes, that’s what it says.

So if they won’t give that up and won’t move on from that government – which also says peace is never possible – then yes, the Gazans should be moved elsewhere.

Even the Arab League has said that Hamas must disband now, because if they don’t, no peace is possible, and the only outcome that isn’t all the Palestinians being killed would be to force them out.

Hamas, of course, has no interest in this.

Are you really not aware that genocide has a specific definition and doesn’t just mean „killing as many people as humanly possible“? Nothing in the definition of genocide as adopted by the Geneva convention requires that a substantial percentage of a population needs to be exterminated in order for it to qualify as a genocide. It’s about the attempt to wipe out a people’s identity *as a people*, it’s not just about killing large numbers of them.

Let’s take a look at some of the organizations and scholars who agree this conflict meets the criteria to be called a genocide, shall we?:

* The International Court of Justice who ruled in 2024 that Israel is „plausibly committing a genocide“.
* The United Nations, which, despite what Israel supporters seem to believe, does actually have extremely rigorous academic standards they adhere to and aren’t just a bunch of Hamas sympathizers saying whatever supports their agenda.
* Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, two more extremely well respected organizations who people love to claim (with exactly zero evidence, of course) are just working backwards from their per-determined conclusion of genocide and cherry picking the data needed to support it.
* Doctors Without Borders recognize this as a genocide.
* The European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights agrees this is a genocide.
* As does the Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention.
* And you know who else does? The entire International Federation for Human Rights, which is a coalition of 188 human rights organizations worldwide. All in total agreement.
* Even *within* Israel, people and orgs are finally admitting what’s been obvious to the rest of the world for well over a year by this point. Haaretz, often called the New York Times of Israel, has published multiple opinion pieces by *Israeli* scholars who state this as an outright genocide. B’tselem and Physicians for Human Rights–Israel, both of which are *Israeli* human rights organizations, agree.
* Finally, this: „On 15 October 2023, over 800 scholars and practitioners of international law, conflict studies and genocide studies signed a public statement warning of the possibility of genocide being perpetrated by Israeli forces against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Signatories include prominent Holocaust and genocide studies scholars, as well as many international law and TWAIL scholars.“ This was EIGHT DAYS after the October 7 attacks, when Israel’s genocidal rhetoric was all we had to work with, and they had not yet completely leveled the entire Gaza strip, purposefully destroyed every hospital, school, and water treatment plant, documented themselves routinely massacring innocent civilians on purpose, sniping children in the head on a daily basis, targeting medical workers and journalists for assassination, and knowingly causing widespread death by starvation.

By now the understanding that what Israeli is doing constitutes genocide is practically a universal consensus among every organization, institution, academic, and scholar who is qualified to speak on the topic. You’d be hard pressed to find even a single well-respected, properly credentialed source who is able and willing to make the opposite case.

The evidence of genocide is so astronomically overwhelming by now that I no longer give people the benefit of the doubt for „just not being well informed.“ If you are still denying, today in August 2025, that Israel is committing the most blatant and egregious genocide imaginable, and knowingly perpetrating the worst atrocity of the 21st century, then you are simply not an honest person, and you do not deserve to be taken seriously.
