Oh just another tax, a little one, just one more, oh just squeeze a few more drops out of them they won’t mind. This one is for an imaginary database, but it’s for safety, which is important, can’t put a price on safety, but if we had to, it would be £46.
Landlords will of course raise their rents by £46 so really the tenant pays more, so the housing crisis gets worse as rents spiral out of control.
It’s become a joke at this point, you can’t tax a population out of a deficit if you can’t control the spending.
I’m gonna guess, us tenants are gonna see a 25% increase on our rent to accommodate this.

Any additional charges on the landlords gets passed onto tenants. The government know this and don’t care.

Well, thanks to random BS admin charges I think we can all be very thankful for the extra £46 per month that we’ll end up paying…
To those complaining about this, calling it a tax, may I remind you that nurses pay three times this to keep their registration valid.
They do that because keeping accurate records of these things costs money. If nurses (and other health professionals who pay similar fees) don’t get the state to pay for it why should landlords?
My borough already implemented a licence for all properties costing £680 for 5 years. HMO licence costs £1360. It’s an attempt to crack down on unsafe properties. I’m not sure this one will make any difference.
There really should be a department that goes round reviewing and fining these landlords for the poor state their rental properties are in.
There should be a limit on the amount of rent that can be charged per private floor space.
