A blue hosre’s head in space ? 🐴
Here’s a deep sky astrophotography image I captured of the Blue Horsehead Nebula.

I captured it in the Canary Islands during an astrophotography trip, on the island of La Palma, which truly lives up to its reputation as one of the best night skies in the world.

This nebula had been on my deep sky target list for a while. After several failed attempts, I finally managed to capture it and I’m really happy with the result.

The Blue Horsehead Nebula, also known as IC 4592, is a reflection nebula located about 400 light-years away in the constellation Scorpius. Its striking blue glow comes from starlight reflecting off interstellar dust. The shape resembling a horse’s head is a cosmic coincidence, sculpted by light and shadow across vast distances.

To achieve this, I used an equatorial mount to track the stars and a telescope lens called the Redcat 51. I captured this on the last night of my trip and honestly, I wasn’t sure it would work as I already get some trouble to set my equatorial mount. I first let it run for two hours thinking it was going to be enough and also to verify that everything was going good, when I check the last frames I had the surprise to see everything was perfect no stars trail so I decided to let it run until the morning.

In the end I get 296 pictures that I stacked together to get a final pcture of 3 hours and 42 minutes.
