Der Anstieg der „großen Gewaltverbrechen“ ist wahrscheinlich darauf zurückzuführen, dass Vergewaltigungsgesetze für 2017 die Definition erweitert und die Verurteilungen wahrscheinlicher machen.

Though I largely agree with the point, the person is wrong about pre-2017 rape statistics.
Before 2017, Penal Code 177 and Penal Code 178 (which covers cases involving drugs, sleep, alchol, consent obtained through false information, mind control, etc.) were both equally counted in the rape statistics.
The new law of non-consensual sexual intercourse combines these two laws, not revised ver of Penal Code 177 alone.
There’s definitely some new type of crimes that I never thought it would start to happen in Japan, like theft of pole power cables and (parked) cars. Although not violent, it’s a classic third world type of crimes.
