Because we’d rather pay 10x the cost, from a shitty Canadian shipyard, that doesn’t build ships, than buy from someone who knows what they’re doing.

Once again, if federal government wants these ships to be built in Europe or Canada, then the federal government can pay for it or shut the fuck up. BC Ferries said building the ferries in Europe will cost an extra 1 billion.

As a MP from BC, Robertson should be well aware of the situation of BC Ferries. It needs new ferries like yesterday. It is already expensive enough and people don’t need another fare increase. He should be explaining the situation to his colleagues and not backstabbing BC.

China manufacturers ~60% of the world’s ships. They are the manufacturing superpower. No shame on getting a good deal.

      Interesting quote for your consideration:

„CMI Weihai has a strong track record of building passenger and vehicle vessels for large international operators including Stena RoRo (Sweden) and Grimaldi Lines (Italy). **Through its long-term partnership with Stena RoRo, CMI Weihai has built vessels for Canada’s Marine Atlantic ferry company and other major ferry operators such as Corsica Linea and Brittany Ferries (France). CMI Weihai’s work on a vessel for Marine Atlantic gives the shipyard direct experience meeting Transport Canada regulatory requirements.** We will have a fleet renewal team on-site throughout construction to provide oversight and ensure safety, quality, and performance at every stage.“

    5. As another poster pointed out in another thread: sinophobia.

If there’s another argument to be made, the journalists or an expert or the matter should make it

If the argument comes down to racism, especially IMPLIED racism, it should be thrown out.

    6. I don’t see the issue having these ferries made in China… especially considering everything else that is made there.

Ideally they should have been made in Korea. But that’s the Eby Government’s fault for not coordinating this purchase better.

      What’s done is done.

Make the next big purchase elsewhere.
