This is one of the things that Putin fears and does not want to allow: a neighboring, culturally related country in which people can freely protest and the government caves in to their demands. If Ukraine becomes a functional democracy, Russians might look next door and get some ideas. Similar thing in Georgia. He absolutely hates that the Baltic states managed to get there and he can’t do shit about it.

This could be a 5D chess move to remove actual problematic political figures in kyiv and to really establish the independent anti-corruption organizations while also furthermore show that they are very democratic by listening to the protests. All to get more support from EU and the people

It’s not just that they get their way, but that they protected their revolution. And the fact that the people were protesting this with chants of „Ukraine is not Russia“ shows exactly that. The revolution was never about geopolitically checkmating Russia or all the bullshit they make up, it was always about a people demanding democracy and transparency. Russia made itself the enemy when because it kept trying to crush it. And it’s beautiful that despite the war, Ukrainians keep fighting to built a fairer state for themselves.

What was Zelenskyy thinking exactly. He’s already accused of being corrupt by the usual suspects why give them ammunition?

Good. The optics were beyond terrible that Zelensky tried to force government oversight of the very organizations meant to watch for government corruption.
