The US spreading freedom around the world.

I wonder what the defenders of the self proclaimed greatest democracy in the world think about the US interfering with and punishing a country for holding a former president accountable after he attempted a coup.

For those who don’t know, Brazil was hit with 50% tariffs.

    2. If this isn’t a red alert for other democracies around the world, I don’t know what is.

Today, the United States is the biggest threat to democracy in the world.

Trump can’t have other countries showing how to prosecute corrupt leaders…

    4. Bishopjones2112 on

Ahh yes directly interfering with other nations legal proceedings. That’s totally legit for a sitting president right? Well actually it’s probably not that far off, but combine it with all the other illegal, immoral, and unjust things and it becomes dark and gross.

    5. To summarize what happened: Bolsonaro attempted a coup in the same style as the capitol thing, but justice is actually being done. Bolsonaro’s son went to the US to ask Trump to intervene in his favor. Trump sanctioned the judge (same one that confronted X and Rumble about them ignoring the laws of the country), and is threatening to extend it to other judges specifically involved in those trials, along with tariffs and suspension of general services like Microsoft and Amazon.

    6. All the countries should be aware that Trump is going to interfere with your independent judicial system too.

„The Magnitsky Act, created in 2012 in honor of Russian lawyer Sergei Magnitsky, who died in prison after exposing corruption, allows the US to impose sanctions on individuals accused of human rights violations or large-scale corruption.“

The US can basically justify the use of this law to interfere in any other countries’ decisions, like in Morae’s case, which is the judge responsible for Bolsonaro’s trial.

We didn’t have this level of foreign interference in our country from the US since they couped our government. Which, by the way, is probably their objective as well again.

Well, banks in Brazil won’t comply, and Brazil has both its own payment system (Elo), which serves as a Visa/Mastercard counterpart and Pix… one of the reasons the sack of orange shit is angry.

What a sad day for Xandão. I’m sure he had quite a bit of property in the US, even after the literal months of threats of Magnitsky sanctions against him.

    10. Sanctioning judges who prosecute their friends. Sanctioning media companies who criticise them.

If not fascist, why fascist shaped?

Many people wonder why LATAM, Middle Eastern and other “third world” countries hate the USA, some even think it’s “envy of America’s success and freedom”, but here’s the real reason.

It’s not so much as the practical consequences, I doubt this will change anything in Moraes’ life or in Bolsonaro’s case, but it’s the principle behind it that is so infuriating: the United States meddling in other countries internal affairs, directly questioning their sovereignty, and disguising it as “defending freedom and democracy”. Bolsonaro literally planned and tried a coupe d’etat, with clear plans to kill Lula and Moraes, but his bootlicking ass would sell his own family to the USA if it got him a pat in the head from Trump.

And I go as far as to say this is as clear and public coup attempt from the USA without financing armed groups. Next step would be not recognising next year’s election because Bolsonaro got (rightfully) arrested.

When that happens to your country, you start to question a lot of what we know about other countries in the world not aligned with the West and from which most things we know are through American lens

    12. With Trump, I’ve run out of WTFs to last me for years, but hasn’t he ever heard of national sovereignty?
And I used to think „W“ was the worst President in the history of this country.

I wasn’t sure if Trump was that desperate to hide that he is a pedophile but it definetely looks like that more and more every day

    14. Anxious-Effort-5452 on

The GOP dutifully protecting dictators and pedophiles while robbing the poor to give to the rich.

    15. Why is he getting involved in the internal affairs of Brazil? This is very weird?

This may quickly enough bring to light issues in Canada and the EU (the two jurisdictions with which I’m most familiar).

At a high-level, both have laws that prevent local companies from complying with foreign sanction regimes. Normally, this won’t cause friction amongst western nations as the sanction regimes are broadly similar (except Cuba, which sparked the laws).

Where it will cause an issue is if a newly sanctioned person (such as an ICC prosecutor) has an account in e.g. France with the subsidiary of an American financial institution.

The subsidiary is obliged by its ownership to comply with American law. It is obliged to comply with French(EU) law. if the ICC prosecutor has an account there, what happens?

If we don’t want to take any responsibilities in global protection and support, we should also be butting out of other countries‘ business.

    18. Huge_JackedMann on

Trump is such a dummy. Being anti US plays very well in Brazil. The judge, Lula and his whole party can now easily portray the US as an evil lawless anti Brazil country which, TBF they are.

    19. jellyfish_bitchslap on

I truly can’t think about how our banks will deal with the sanction as they need to comply if they want to be kept on SWIFT.

However, this will make no difference in Bolsonaro’s trial, and the fact that this attrition exposed that we have Brazilian politicians working for the USA and against our own country, including a senator who showed in video his S-Class USA VISA — categorized as VISA for individuals who share sensitive informations with the USA — will start a lot more criminal lawsuits.

Not only we have traitors elected to our congress, but they felt they were protected enough by Trump to admit it to the entire world, and unless the USA take down our entire government those people would be prosecuted for conspiring against their own country for ridiculous interests.

They’re at it again are they?. Am amazed that anyone’s surprised. It’s like everyone’s forgotten about united states‘ foreign policy concerning central and south america in the latter part of the 20th century.

    21. Wrong headline. THAT should be it: American criminal blackmails Brazil because on how they are treating their criminals.

    22. Toolatethehero3 on

Does none else see this? The blowback against the heavy handed US from every country including every past ally will grow over the years.

The flood of news regarding this shitstain’s crimes with his bff Epstein will be an absolute tsunami once his bloated body is fouling the earth.

    24. I wonder how much Trump was promised, and do they pay in 13-year-olds?

Edit: 12 is too young, Trump is a classy guy, he waits until his victims are 13.

This is mind-blowingly crazy. The United States as a country are now officially meddling in judicial proceedings of other countries.

What the FUCKKKKKK is happening???!?!?! I’m so tired of this bullshit.

    27. General-Ninja9228 on

Unbelievable! A corrupt U.S. President protecting an equally corrupt former Brazilian President who tried to seize power illegally in Brazil. It’s simply none of the United States business what Brazil does in regards to Bolsonaro.

    28. if this is not foreign meddling in elections, judicial process, democractic systems I don’t know what is. Coupled with weaponizing trade, economy, bully others, attack other countries and their people, when will the world sanction USA, make USA accountable for their illegal, immoral actions?

    29. ShitNailedIt on

Still not learning the ‚dont interfere with other people’s country“ thing again, hey?

    30. EINFACH_NUR_DAEMLICH on

Why and how are they allowed to sanction this person? On what grounds?

    31. Just-Signature-3713 on

I never thought I’d see the US so openly interfere in other countries judicial process. This is wild.

    32. 1_Upminster on

Please tell, what business is it of TrumpUSA the internal affairs of other countries? NONE. Oh, but wait, he is King of the World ( and the Anti-Christ ), so I guess that makes it okay.
