Not a London specific problem – I see posts in subs for places as far from London as Edinburgh and Aberdeen where gangs of youth go around the city centres unchallenged and threaten people with knives, or with the threat that they are carrying a knife.

Good luck trying to address this in any meaningful way, without various dog whistles sounding off.

We all know what the problem is, but nobody in positions of power has the bollocks to address it.

Edit: The replies to this comment prove my point.

Wow Cameron and May removing thousands of police on the beat, putting them to managing social media and thought crimes instead led to this? Shock horror

    4. we have tried the whole ban approach lets go the other way for a little while. MANDATORY knife carrying for everyone.

    5. The UK is controlled by Tabloid agendas even though hardly anyone reads print media any more. Its F ed up.

To re state what should be obvious,

The problem of knife crime is not that knifes exists, it is the fact that thousands of the UK’s young people want to stab each other! FFS!

Completely ignoring the problem is not addressing knife crime FFS!

UK society has been destroyed by the decades the Tories have been robbing the UK over the last 50 years, its problems are far worse than the existence of sharp objects.

    6. Up 90% in the last 10 years.

The thing is we all know there’s not going to be a similar rise in the police, courts and prison system, all of which are at capacity and there’s no money, so what people are being told is “you’ve got to be OK with more knife crime”.

With the reports that foreign nationals do 2x the sex crimes, or the government figures that small boats migrants do 11x the crimes, you can see why Reform are polling well, they’re the only ones providing a solution that isn’t telling the public, “you’ve got to be OK with Britain ending up with the crime rate of the third world.”

      It’s not racism, it’s a rational response.

Why was this not “zero tolerance” of a serious justice and crime system in the first place?

    8. In a year from now – „Police recorded substantial increase in rape cases among teenagers over the last year, due to the wank ban introduced just a year ago. Teenager boys are looking for alternatives to relieve themselves.“

I’m sure Sir Sadiq will get to the bottom of this and get it sorted now he’s had his 9 year settling in period

I’ve been saying it for years. Stop and search like crazy and start banging people up for carrying. Build the facilities to hold them and educate them while they are inside. Fuck the upfront cost. It will pay for itself in time.

There is no deterrent if there is a low chance of being caught and an even lower chance of a meaningful punishment. Same goes for shoplifting and other „petty“ crimes. We are already sliding down a slippery slope in the UK.

Don’t worry, we only need to arrest a few more people for carrying gardening tools or Legend of Zelda toys and pass a few more laws outlawing 1980s cartoon turtles and zombies and then the country will be safe.

We can debate the causes until the cows come home but it will continue to be a problem until there’s adequate police on the streets they have a clear visible presence and repeat offenders are locked up, that’s it.
