News flash: inhaling a burning gas/substance into your body will have negative health effects.

Headline: Smoking ***weed*** gives you cancer.

Article: ***Smoking*** weed (or tobacco) gives you cancer.

Really shows you how downhill these .edu sources have become in the past ten years of anti-intellectualism and stocking their management and director jobs with right-wing idiots.

      Smoking is bad for you?!

This is like those ’seed oil‘ studies that people who listen to too many podcasts worry about. The study shows „eating less fried food is good for you“ but no, it has to be about the seeeeeed oils.

Social media will, literally, die on the hill that mind altering chemicals are safe.

    5. Not surprising – inhaling burning material isn’t very good for your mouth or lungs.

    6. So you are saying that lighting things that are not tobacco on fire, and inhaling the smoke into your lungs is also terrible for your health and can cause cancer? What a shocking revelation!

I heard it doubles your chance of oral sex tho because weed makes people horny. Some times. Some people. Some weed too maybe

    8. I’m not sure why anyone would be surprised that smoking anytihng causes potential health issues.

Breathing anything besides air is generally not great for you long term

“Cannabis Use Disorder” is a new one. Always with the scare tactics.

The article only talks about smoking it rather than vaping or edibles. It also points out that smoking tobacco increased the risk by over 600 times so this makes me really question the value of this study. They do a rather bad job of any level of statistics so we don’t really know how common cancer is from the study and it never mentioned any vaping control groups. Sure they mooted the possibility it inhibits the immune system but again no actual evidence.

I wonder why even do such a truncated blurb without proper context. It isn’t even a high level of risk for those cavepeople presumably in their old age and set in their ways who still combust and haven’t heard of vapes and edibles.

    11. Triples the risk from what baseline percentage you ask?

„Among 45,129 eligible patients, 949 (2.1 %) developed CUD. Oral cancer incidence was 0.74 % in the CUD group and 0.23 % in non-CUD patients.“

      lol

Made up condition, 100% combustion only. It’s absolutely nothing to do with cannabis.

    13. How are those studies coming on the detrimental effects of alcohol and pharmaceutical use?

Who funded this study? We all know smoking is going to do this? Did the booze industry fund this one?

    15. Do the authors of this study think that smoking is the only way to consume cannabis?

There was another study linking smoking pot to heart attacks later in life.

I do believe that was only smoking it so edibles and vaporizing is safe ( I think)

Don’t care. Not going to read your article. Still safer than drinking. Less addictive than sleeping pills, benzos, and narcotic pain killers. Yes, smoking it is unhealthy. That’s why I vape flower or consume gummies.

    18. Tripling the risk of oral cancer is good information, but also somewhat scare tactic clickbait. Chewing tobacco can increase the risk as much as 50 times based upon a few studies. Also consuming alcohol can increase the risk by a similar number. Even a diet low in fruits and vegetables can increase the risk of oral cancer, so don’t panic stoners… rinse your mouth with alcohol free mouthwash and shout at the devil!

Everyone should actually read the study…

“Oral cancer incidence was 0.74 % in the CUD group and 0.23 % in non-CUD patients.”

Yes, cannabis users were about 3 times the risk of oral cancer. But come on people, this is how they get your attention. The actual rate of incidence matters too.

Breaking news, being alive increases risk of cancer and other fatal diseases!

Soooo what about smoking weed without „cannabis use disorder“

      Fuckin dogshit headline, man

No shit smoking is bad, but there’s a lot more to cannabis than smoking
