      I know a lot of things that can spoil the summer fun in Finland: mosquitoes, ticks, vipers, hirvikärpäset, too hot, too rainy, too dry weather … they raised the prices for ice cream *again*, etc.

      Goose poop was never on my list, and I doubt it will ever be.

      Plagued sounds abit harsh, I mean I see it around and would prefer not to, but I don’t think it is a huge problem. But then again I am not big on hanging in parks or beach.

      As someone who likes to hike around Helsinki, seriously fuck these geese. They are an absolute plague, crap is everywhere. Once you get further north it is ok as long as you are not walking next to water. If you are, you’re walking on a carpet of shit and that’s just something you gotta deal with.

      Honestly, I wish they’d shoot them all down on the way here…

      The problem is kind of caused by us humans giving them their perfect grazing grounds when we plant grasses and mow them constantly to keep a nice turf.

      The goose poop problem is totally ideological and inside-Finland politics (sisäpolitiikkaa).

      In other EU countries, like Sweden and Estonia, the goose are hunted. In Finland it is forbidden to hunt them. That is the simple reason why we have the goose-problem.

      Haven’t seen any goose since spring – this problem is concentrated only in certain areas or cities.

      I have shot all these birds from my beach. Felt like they didnt need the protection anymore. For 20 euros I come shoot all your birds too. It’s to cover the gas money.

      Helsinki thinking they’re the whole Finland again. Never had a problem with goose poop myself.

      They surely are a problem in Helsinki’s parks and beaches. Super annoying. Not sure about other cities though

      It’s good fertiliser which is nice because fertiliser is super expensive.
