Mark Carney wird gegen Big Tech „Ellbogen“

My comment is not at all about Carney but it is about technology.

Artificial intelligence (Or at minimum extremely advanced LLM systems) are on the horizon, automation and robotics continues to advance and be further implemented, technological progress is happening on all fronts and the speed of progress is speeding up rapidly.

We have to make sure a major focus right now is that the benefits of that progress in countless areas goes to the working class and the most vulnerable and not just a select few.

This needs to be a rising all tides type situation versus a factor for growing inequality and alienation.

Whenever we talk about technology now I think that is important to mention. Especially with the general affordability of life crisis/quality of life crisis being such a dominant dimension of our era.

As a public servant who works on an upcoming project that will have AI, My experience is the exact opposite of what this article says.

The amount of work we’ve had to put in to ensure that the AI aspect of our project is regulated, non-invasive, and secure goes way past what most tech companies are doing.

I’ve personally written documentation on how this new project will affect our departments workforce, the public, and the goverment as a whole. Both the positives and negatives.

I know my experience may differ from other departments and agencies. However as somone who is a PM on an IT driven project, the hoops we have to jump through in order to even get this off the ground gives me faith that the Canadian goverment is being extremely careful on the implementation of AI in the workplace.

Oddly enough one of the things I’ve stressed to upper management is we need to be more open and clear on just how much research and work we do on AI projects before moving forward. That way the public can understand the decision making processes, and hopefully alleviate some of the public’s fears about our goverments AI projects.
