It’s too bad that even if it did officially violate international law, it essentially means nothing as far as enforcement or accountability goes. Lots of bark, no bite.

The US voted for „drill baby drill“ and we are certainly going into that direction. What are you going to do? Use stronger language?
UN has less power than a toddler crying on the floor of walmart demanding a toy.
Even if the ICJ can’t really do much unless UN states start holding each other accountable, the people might be able to incite change.
I don’t know who listens to the UN or their courts. _shrug_

And what is the top court going to do about it? Nothing, because they cannot actually do anything. None of the powers actually acknowledge their authority (though not as blatant as the ICC) rendering it toothless.
