I’ll be honest, I didn’t realise Austria wasn’t in NATO.
I guess they’re surrounded by NATO states so hope that that positioning would protect them.

    2. It’s about time, the whole enforced neutrality thing doesn’t exist anymore except as an excuse for Austria to remain a safe haven for Russian oligarchs and their assets.

There is no reason for Austria to be neutral anymore. It was understandable before, when they were forced to be neutral by the big powers, but Russia’s influence in Europe has diminished significantly. Russia can no longer force Austria to stay neutral.

Better that they join to be ‘for’ NATO than ‘against’ something else.

    5. Vienna is a spy nest for Russia. Austria wants to get in to steal all the military plans.

      Just no.
The politicians of today are weaker and more vulnerable to being compromised than ever before. Whoever tolerates Russian’s covert terrorism should feel the consequences.

Probably due to Russia attacking Austria’s government via spies and infiltration.

Putin hijacked Austria’s spy service. Now he’s going after its government – POLITICO https://share.google/wEkq77XlN3ielOdi1

The problem is when you are neutral with Russia the Russians just see you as a doormat to use however they wish, and a territory to conquer if they choose.

I was once told by an Austrian military member, while at a NATO meeting, that Austria would like to join NATO but that Turkey was opposed. According to him, there was a reason Turkey objected, maybe something to do Gülen?
