    1. Far safer to use those GPS trackers that can be launched and stuck onto the fleeing car’s bumper from the police car. Then pursue at leisure from a greater distance.

Maybe an idea? High speed pursuits kill many innocent people in the USA and we don’t need that here

Time for drones… they’re perfect for this type of job. Less danger to other people around too.

Back off and just follow them from the air with a drone, using the mobile networks for comms, then when the car stops zoom in and film everything and be able to use the speaker on the drone to issue instructions to the driver.

Purple paint spray if you want to get fancy and tag the driver as he exits the veh-icle.

    3. As it stands unless they have an advanced license they are breaking the law as well in high pursuit chases, they are also causing a risk to other drivers and pedestrians.

It needs to be added to the training as well. Sure bikers get training in the college why can’t they do the same for the cars

We really should also have the custom that when an ambulance, patrol car or fire tender comes along with sirens on, all other road users will draw in to the sides to give them a clear run.

A few guards I know were telling me there’s no incentive to become fully pursuit trained in due to how the training works.

Iirc there’s three levels of vehicle training for guards. The third one being the pursuit one. You can progress through everything but if you fail the 3rd test you don’t stay at two, it knocks you back down to level one. And it takes months to get a test for each level.

So essentially, you could be making yourself less eligible for vehicle patrol by trying to advance further and failing. So most just stay at level 2.

If anyone can correct me, please do. But I’ve been told this by 3 separate guards I know.

So they ain’t properly trained? I’m shocked, shocked, well not that shocked.

    7. If only we had gardai in the air in helicopters that could track cars in high speed chases and direct the gardai on the ground.

    8. Do any of the new technologies like the little net that fires out to ensnare the back wheel or the sticky trucking devices that can get fired onto the criminal vehicle work?

Ireland – a criminals paradise – no prison space and the guards can’t chase you !
