The opportunities would probably be better if France hadn’t just released a terrorist leader that murdered an American diplomat in Paris, the same day it removed any conditions for recognition of a Palestinian state.
IMO Macron made some moves for his own political benefit and France likely has underestimated the backlash.
The family of an American diplomat just watched footage of the killer’s triumphant return to Lebanon because France overturned his life sentence. That’s not a minor insult.
