Canada wants low skilled workers to suppress wages for young people, this guy is not the right candidate. Otherwise we would have created a highly skilled visa like UK has, it’s called high skilled individual visa. It’s pretty amazing if you search it up.
My company would love to import a large number of its employees into Canada. They’re high tech professionals who make good money. But no, apparently we need to post their positions locally and see if any Canadians can do the work. So we don’t. Because we already have someone doing that job.
It’s … Silly. We’re not hiring, we just want to move someone to Canada from a country that they’re no longer comfortable living in. When they get here they would pay taxes to Canada, and continue working for our company.
As a result of not importing them Canada doesn’t get to enjoy the tax revenue, they won’t be spending their money at Canadian businesses, and our company continues operating as normal. Probably the only benefit to Canada by not importing these folks is that it’s a few less people looking for housing here, but otherwise it’s entirely a fail.
Canadians still think us as being in a mythical bloc of countries that are magically better than the world, the „West“ collectively brain drains the rest.
That’s not correct anymore, nowadays the USA stands alone in paying the highest wage anywhere on the planet. For white collar desk jobs, the wage difference between the US and the rest of „rich“ countries, i.e. Canada, Western Europe, Japan, is 30-50%. The difference between us and upper middle income countries like Eastern Europe, China, or Mexico is another 30%-50%. Nowhere as big of a gap as it used to be.
That’s before you factor in the cost of living. Come to Canada and struggle to afford rent in a shared basement, or stay in Santiago/Beijing/Bangkok and have a normal, middle class life? Economics alone doesn’t cut it.
Now the electorate of the US is idiotic enough to kick out the world’s best and brightest… but why would they bother with Canada either in this climate?
No. He’s the type of immigrants that Canada **needs**.
Unfortunately, the type of immigrants that Canada **wants** is cheap, exploitable labor that they can hire below market wages. And by Canada, I mean the corporate oligopolies that have a hand in the government on a federal and provincial level.
