Problem with Glasgow is to make it “affordable” they have cut so much that it’s not interesting. You don’t have to be a genius to see Australia will hoover up all the swimming and there’s not enough other sports for anyone to catch them. Some countries like India or Singapore have lost nearly 100% of their medal hopefuls due to the sports being dropped too.
What we have is a glorified sports days devoid of stars that costs less than the very expensive one that was planned, but have thrown away lots of big hitting sports out to keep costs low.
Hope it does well, probably on bbc

Should never have offered to host it. There’s a reason every other city turned it down.

It feels like a relic now. The Euros, Worlds and Olympics (plus the Diamond League) are massive then you’ve got the same thing with Swimming etc. Which competitions do athletes schedule to peak at? Not the Commonwealth Games for the vast majority.

Still think they should’ve spread the games over multiple cities.

The Commonwealth games needs to be put out of its misery. It’s from a bygone age and has become increasingly irrelevant over the last 20 years. And no one wants to host it.

They’ve had a good run, but I think it’s time to can them. The world’s moved on.

It’ll probably be on the BBC Red Button or something.

I enjoyed the idea of the Commonwealth Games because it allowed all the countries of the UK to have their own representation.
I feel very little for the collective “Team GB” just the individuals, but a bit more for a collective “Team Scotland”
It’s a shame that this might be its last swing at the bat, but it’s time to put it to bed.

I went to loads of events in 2022 as I was local to it and had a brilliant time. It’s definitely on its way out though. Probably get picked up by channel 4 in the end.
I think they should just announce the 2030 edition to take part in London and declare it to be the last games. It’ll be nice to wrap it up exactly on 100 years and make it as big a celebration as possible.

Being from Birmingham I went to quite a few events during the 2022 Commonwealth games and the buzz around the city during the event was definitely noticeable, I think the city definitely got a boost from it, however I get the impression that that was more an anomaly than a regular outcome of the games

I assumed bbc would just pick it up.
