Iran’s in a horrendous trap where they have their people and economy used to cheap petroleum, so this means people use a lot of it and the cities are choked with cars and car infrastructure which contributes a small part to global climate change, but most importantly, contributes a substantial component to local high temperatures and the urban heat island effect. This double fucks Iran because their chief export is petroleum and are dependent on that for foreign dollars, but they’ve been subsidizing getting high on their own supply.
