You can tell that President Trump had this all prepared ahead of time to embarrass Chairman Powell.
Pretty well any time Trump reaches into his inside jacket pocket you know that it is a setup and Trump is going in for what he thinks is the kill. Good on Chairman Powell to react how he did, cool, calm, and with the facts in a no nonsense manner.
Of course Trump is trying to embarrass the Chair of the Federal Reserve just because Mr. Powell will not bend a knee to him and lower interest rates as he wants. I figure after this episode that Trump will be embarrassed and angry enough to actually fire the Chairman and put his own puppet in his place.
Trump tried to lay down a trap for Chairman Powell. Powell is infinitely smarter than Trump, so he metaphorically takes the stupid trap and slams it back in Donny’s face.
Donald Trump has a 35% approval rating. Nobody should be afraid to fact-check him to his face. This Administration is falling apart faster than the sneakers he sold.
This is an excellent humiliation of Trump using his own dumb bullying trick against him.
This is the same tactic they used against Zelensky when they ambushed him with the ‚You never said thank you‘ lies in front of cameras. It’s all planned and meant to make the other person look bad when they don’t respond quickly in real time.
Notice how Trump was ready for the push back and immediately reached for his pocket and pulled out the paper – a fully planned move.
The intent is to present some damning „facts“ that the other guy can’t dispute in real time. But this time Powell was totally prepared and was able to expose the lie in front of the cameras. I wouldn’t be surprised if Powell had fully expected Trump to pull this trick during the public showing. Why else would Trump even be seen with Powell at this point if not to play a trick on him. And I hope everyone in the future take note of this trick and come just as prepared.
It now looks exactly the opposite of what Trump intended – Powell comes off as smart and honest and Trump as having been caught in a lie – he must be absolutely fuming that this backfired.
