He can’t force Powell to cut rates. So who exactly is pressuring him to do it?
Also…why would anyone want the rates to lower? That would be a disaster for the economy.
So is anyone actually gonna carry the guy out of the office if Trump writes a mean letter or is Trump just blowing more smoke?
As far as I understood it the Fed is a separate institution that the Executive can’t directly influence (with good reason).

If he gets his rate cuts and things tank or more likely we get stagflation he’ll just say we didn’t cut soon enough.
Powell said a couple months ago that he would have *already* cut interest rates, except that dumpfuck is causing global economic chaos with the tariffs.

As Trump is doing so much to try and change the conversation to something else, nay anything else other than the J.E. fiasco.
About interest rates. The Epstein Estate probably has more stuff of interest.
He could’ve golfed the entire term away, and the Fed probably would’ve already cut rates at least once by now. But by starting the tariff fights, and then raging at Jay Powell, it’s hard to see how the Fed doesn’t slow walk this as much as they can at this point.
That’s the worst part of both Trump terms. He could’ve sat back, pretended to be President while leaving any actual governing to the Vice President, and golfed for 8 years, and by sheer momentum everything would’ve come out better. His actions alone are what’s causing all the extra misery.
If he does manage to succeed, get ready for some hyperinflation.
Edit: who wants a bet he wants hyperinflation so people will stop talking about Epstein?
They really just need to hand Trump the ’special scissors‘ used to cut interest rates. He can take it home and keep it next to his ‚weather Sharpie‘ and he’ll be happy that he is in control of things again.
