Aside from the fact have there been 3 public information events about the project; do we really believe that if the protesters had all received 1 to 1 sessions with the council beforehand they wouldn’t be out there complaining?

A multi generational infrastructure project to be shelved because of someones irrational fears, gtfo.
The problem with all these consultation processes is that people think because they have an opinion it’s the only correct one, very few can be objective and look at the bigger picture.
First they came on their holidays , and I said nothing, because it was not in my back yard.
Then they came with their moving trucks and increased house prices, and I said nothing, because my back yard became very valuable and it also was not in my back yard.
Now they come on their bikes, and I must speak out, for this cannot happen in my back yard… not in my back yard

I remember someone mentioning that people can counter-protest? Effectively indicating support for the project (and hopefully calling out BS for what it is).
They don’t care about the locals. All they care about is wasting our money on bullshit projects. We need maybe road investment to maintain and upgrade what we have. Nevermind building new roads.

It’s a shame that this is attracting so much opposition, it would be a fantastic amenity. It would use the [Chetwynd Viaduct](https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/buildings-search/building/20908603/chetwynd-viaduct-chetwynd-cork) and Goggins Hill Tunnel, as well as providing a useful active travel link for Belgooly (~6km) and Riverstick(~10km) into Kinsale.
It’s also planned to link up to a larger network of greenways along the old Cork, Bandon and South Coast railways, with separate proejects being advanced around [Skibbereen](https://wcgskibbereen.ie), [Bandon](https://www.wcgbandon.ie), and we’re awaiting a plan for Clon to Skibb.
Is Ireland capable of building or improving anything without people bitching and moaning, is it any wonder that there is a housing shortage.

There’s the crux of it.
Cries about lack of consultation and splitting the family farm she married into…. Really they’re worried about their planning app.
Ironically, that’s probably the way to make it work for everyone.
If their application for one off housing was knocked back due to lack of nearby public transport /infrastructure, then you could easily see them do a 180 and say we’re planning on building a house and need the Greenway.
These greenways are essential for the recreational use of our countryside and for active transport. Rural roads are just too dangerous for the use of cyclists and pedestrians.
They may need to go full Arthur Dent on this one..

The amount of times I’ve seen people oppose things that they then immediately enjoy the benefits of once built is infuriating, they’ll be the first to use it and silently accept that they were idiots for ever opposing it.
That Cork-Kinsale road is a death trap and no amount of money would make me cycle or walk it, and yet it’s a very manageable distance (by bike). This is an instance of active travel that would get the use to justify the investment.
To the leftie hippies here gushing over the idea of a greenway- how would you like to receive a threatening letter from the council telling you your house/garden/farmland is on the preferred greenway route and if you do not comply your property will be taken over by CPO? More power to the residents.
This is a disaster of a project, the routes encompass far too much private property, and it cannot come to fruition. It will go the way of the Fermoy greenway, and be quietly dropped.
