I once had a boss that was late to every 1:1 we ever had. So whenever I was sitting on Zoom waiting for her to join, I’d job hunt. I ended up leaving for a job I applied to for while waiting for her.

I’ve heard that people don’t quit jobs, they quit supervisors.
OP is a bot advertising for KickResume, just another AI service. A lot of their comments feel off, but if you look through them, some are very obvious. M-dashes, pairs of three, odd ChatGPt-y analysis or praise, etc. [I mean just here…](https://www.reddit.com/r/dataisbeautiful/s/89ugKGEkdT)

It was a principal at the middle school where I worked. She was about six feet tall and wore really high heels. My stomach would clench on the drive to work and then also whenever I heard those heels clacking on the 8th grade hall floor. She was a perfect combination of incompetence, meanness, and narcissism. Her AP was also hapless and incompetent. My doctor prescribed Ambien so I could sleep. I had five years until retirement and just wanted to teach middle school English. I lasted a year. My next admin team was the best I have ever encountered. I retired and lived happily ever after.

Are people with horrible bosses more motivated to take surveys about having horrible bosses? I’m guessing yes. The nature of this sample is the biggest issue here (e.g., these results don’t generalize to any particular population, because it’s a volunteer sample)

Seems low. At almost every single job there has been a toxic boss at some degree above me. Usually my direct supes were chill but the people above them were fucking horrible. Middle management is the scourge of America

My most recent boss hired me to lead a software team that he had run into the ground. One bad release he said he might have to start reconsidering my employment. So I started hunting for new role, found a better job, and and then left hia ass. Now he’s fucked and I’m better off. Don’t ever threaten my job.

I had a loopy boss who would only refer to himself in the third person by name. He would never say ‚I like this‘ he would say ‚<name> likes this‘. Nothing was ever his fault. Long gone – good riddance‘.

It’s strange to me thatconsidering quitting is so much higher than second guessing themselves or dreading coming into work. I feel like those would precede thinking about quitting.

Most of those. Except for the crying at my desk.
