I’m watching the BBC News now. I’m not sure of the fella’s full name, but his first name is Fergal.
He’s bang on. The Government believing that the water industry would cost £100 billion to nationalise based on a report paid for by the water companies is astounding and outlines the incompetence. Of course, I’m no expert on the matter, but how can companies which collectively value themselves at £21 billion (debatable) cost £100 billion to take government control over?
*All* water companies should be brought under public control.
What argument even is there for having private companies operate water? It’s not like they can compete with each other since you can’t change supplier, and it’s not like they’ve used their profits to actually improve the network in any meaningful way.
I’ve said for ages…this government needs to grow a pair…all these water companies are just laughing at us. Government should step in, Freeze all water bills…then Fine all water companies for dumping sewage, not fixing stuff…refuse to pay up by a certain date…Fine them again but bigger…refuse to pay again…Jail them…don’t want to go to Jail…you have three options…pay the fines and fix everything at no extra cost to customers, go to jail and goes back into public hands or hand over back to the public at a cost of Zero, not a single penny goes to shareholders and they just walk away. You do bad business, why the hell are we allowing them to be rewarded for it. And if they don’t want it anymore, we sure as hell are not paying for it either so they can make even more money.
This government is part of the neoliberal hellscape. They won’t nationalise the water companies.
They should nationalise all water companies in England, AT NO COST TO THE TAXPAYER!
Honestly, it’s wild how the system’s falling apart but our bills keep climbing. Public control’s starting to sound like the only sane option.
