Gavin newsom can take 9 seats from them by redirecting California (which he is prepared to do), so if Texas moves to take the 5 Trump requested they will be worse off. I seriously doubt given the recent influx to Texas that he could gerrymander all 12 of the current dem seats. But why even go down this road?

California needs to get working on an amendment to their constitution.
The big issue is that Democratic voters tend to be highly concentrated, while Republican voters are spread out. It’d be easier to just get rid of seats than to find a way to shape districts to get more democrats.
If Blue states were to go all in on gerrymandering, or even just California, how many seats could they potentially gain in the House, are we talking a handful, a dozen, more?

I abhor gerrymandering. However, Democrats cannot utilize fair play against an opponent that only recognizes power. You need to utilize whatever means are necessary when that happens.
Oh absolutely. If they redistrict Texas, we Redistrict California, Washington, Oregon and New York.
Side Note: There’s a really, really easy way to end gerrymandering. Instead of voting by district, cast ballots for party. Primaries are what create the rankings for each party. If Dems win 4 seats, it’s the first 4 in their rankings.
For decades, Republicans have played cutthroat hardball politics, and Democrats have been characterized as bringing a knife to a gun fight. Really, though, Democrats have been guilty of bringing a pot luck cassarole to the gun fight.

Every single blue state that gerrymanders will probably end up at SCOTUS and get slapped with an order to use a RNC drawn map.

What we should have is nonpartisan redistricting everywhere. Maybe this is a backdoor way to get Republicans to agree to it.

There are ways to have almost every district be blue in California and New York if Dems are as ruthless as Republicans in Wisconsin, NC, Texas, Florida, or Ohio.
I don’t believe either side should cheat but the republicans are going to continue to cheat they even said “if we don’t cheat we will never win” so yes democrats should redistrict and balance the scales

I’ve never been a fan of gerrymandering. Since the “rules “ are so vague now I don’t think the dems have a choice here. If you don’t fight fire with fire you’re gonna get burned in this case. Go for it.
