Where are they gonna get live rounds from?

What are they gonna do? Shoot a live round that will explode in their hand from the pressure? The barrels are plastic.

This is right up there with that Harry Potter sword. Police need to go write tickets and control traffic and not waste their time with this crap.

    2. Criminals would use 3D printed parts rather than trying to repurpose toys anyway.

Still appreciate the efforts by the Japanese police to save us from gun violence though.

    3. That guy that assassinated Abe must feel real stupid building his own gun when he could have just gone to the local game centre

Let me provide some context. The National Research Institute of Police Science (NRIPS) is known for overestimating the lethality of firearms in order to justify arbitrary crackdowns. They go so far as to independently develop custom-made bullets that can be fired from any cylindrical object, then declare those objects as capable of firing and thus illegal. This approach is so extreme that it’s often mocked by saying even a *chikuwa* (a Japanese tube-shaped fish cake) could be deemed illegal.

I doubt that there’s a firing pin to strike the primer in the casing. Plus buying real bullets must be next to impossible here. And if you could buy bullets you could probably get a gun at the same place
