Any pretty bimbo can be an „influencer“ these days. Does not make her any more worthy to listen to than bimbos of the past
Casual racism is exactly how I would describe it though. Passive aggressive maybe?
I’m so glad I grew up before there was an internet.
Unrelated but their outfits in that photo on the train are hilarious 😭
>“As an Asian woman, [I find] her using [Japanese](https://www.boredpanda.com/japans-princess-kako-goes-viral-after-flying-economy/) words as an aesthetic racist,” one commenter complained. “She also seems to be unaware that the song she’s using isn’t Japanese, it’s Mandarin. Using Asian culture as an aesthetic is racism, period.”
This might be the stupidest non-controversy I’ve ever read. There is nothing in any way remotely offensive about the shirt. The comments quoted are so dumb I have a hard time believing they were human-generated, nobody sane in Japan would be bothered by this. A Japanese person at the airport or a tourist shop was probably the one who sold her the shirt.
But hey, pretty girls and influencer hate and Japan in the same article? That’s a clickbait trifecta. No wonder it needed two credited writers.
Wait until the critics hear about all the Japanese teens overlaying Korean songs on top of their own TikToks…
Being an idiot is not the same as being a racist. This would be like me overlaying my trip to Australia with songs in Spanish
Ah damn.. guess I am not allowed to wear anything with japanese on it or speak japanese anymore. Maybe I can get a refund for my N1 exam.. /s
Just based on the photos shown here, I don’t like her already.
Seriously. Jesus fucking Christ.
She probably bought a random fucking shirt with Japanese on it that they sell in all the tourist spots like Asakusa. Somehow that’s racist? Because “we as Asians grow up being mocked for these same things” – obviously whoever is commenting didn’t grow up in Japan.
Fuck, people who “claim” cultural appropriation irritate me to no end
mfs will complain about literally anything
Controversy aside, their faces and outfits looks so stupid anyway. They look like idiots
This is not the high caliber of reporting that I generally expect from boredpanda.com
Maybe… just maybe…. She’s just dumb and meant no harm?
Anglo tourists and Chinese tourists are definitely the worst behaved. The the main character syndrome streamers seem to be almost an entirely Anglosphere thing.
I guess people want her to not be racist by… refusing to interact from cultures outside her own?
„As and Asian woman“ translates to woman who happens to have Asian parents, likely not of Japanese decent, living a western lifestyle far removed from anyone actually living in japan.
“…using Japanese words as an aesthetic [is] racist,” has got to be the dumbest thing I’ve seen today. Absolutely, 100%, without an ounce of doubt, whoever dreamt up that statement was American. Ugh…
This isn’t racism or cultural appropriation. Calm down, Karen.
Its a catch 22 with these people.
If you appreciate the culture and wear or do something from that culture, it’s cultural appropriation.
If you avoid anything to do with that culture and stick with your own culture, even if to avoid the appearance of cultural appropriation, that’s racist.
So… how do you thread the needle? Learn the tea ceremony but refuse a kimono because that would be cultural appropriation?
Wait until this girl wears a kimono sometime during the trip. The „outrage“ will be intense.
For the record I’m not a fan of these kinds of influencers, but the comments are treating her like female johnny somali for wearing a shirt with Japanese on it and eating sushi 😆. These pictures look like regular tourist pictures to me.
I’m not going to defend or comment on these influencers but in regards to things like „using Asian culture as an aesthetic is racism“:
Japan is literally the epicentre of using the American/European culture as aesthetic. Their idea of Paris, or Americana, or *shutter* Japanese „English“ are all totally divorced from reality.
🥱
Feels like the one blasting her are white supremacists or weaboos who want gatekeep japan for themselves
