Colbert called it out and got fired and it’s likely one of the stipulations that Trump required to approve the merger. Everyone knows that’s how he works.

Colbert has been put in one of those unique positions where he nothing left to lose in terms of his show, and I suspect that we’ll see him become more unhinged.
I really hope that this sends out the message that its time to stop pretending like decorum means anything anymore, shits real, its time to step up.

Some of Conan’s highest ratings came after it was announced that he was leaving The Tonight Show — he really kicked things up a notch once he had no worry about keeping his job in the long-run. Here’s hoping we see the same thing with Colbert.

ELI5: Why does Trump have a say on anything regarding the merger?
We could be on the verge of a version of Colbert like Conan was after he’d been cancelled by NBC but still had more shows left: completely uninhibited about criticizing the network and its allies, daring them to take him off the air even sooner.
I’m going to be watching a lot of Colbert for the next few months. he’s got to have a lot of shit saved up that he was on the line to use. Hopefully now the gloves are off
