Whenever Syria comes up there’s a pro-regime brigade that claims the regime was actually trying to prevent the coastal massacres and that it was just local groups committing the violence. This is not true.

Here is the current death toll that has any kind of verification from the situation in Suiweda, I see many outlets cite part of these numbers but keep the details vague. In my opinion this enables rumors and disinformation to thrive.
