Late night shows are too outdated for today’s TikTok generations. Colbert gives off grandpa trying to be funny vibes, so not terribly surprised he’s first to go.

This symbolizes an end of an Era that has lasted almost 80 years. The Ed Sullivan show started in 1948, and was synonymous with „Star Creation“. Star = celebrity.
The importance of this programming on the masses, its impact on our culture throughout the decades, cannot be overstated.

Hire Conan O’Brien instead and give him the freedom to do what he does best. CBS would make so much money.

Fallon and Meyers are happy to stay as long as they can while Kimmel is mentally done but he doesn’t know what to do if he leaves.
Sucks that CBS has nuked their late night block and will fill it Byron Allen probably.
While yes, some of the writing on his show was below the other late night shows, and the format as a whole is outdated (we follow celebs on Instagram; don’t need to see most of these by-the-numbers interviews)… it’s still a shame. Stephen is a great person with a great heart, and has spoken powerfully during some of the country’s most difficult moments the last few years.
He needs to have a permanent role at The Daily Show, assuming Paramount doesn’t screw with that too.
He lost his way after the Colbert Report not a good late night host
I am so pleased he made his cash grab. He is still young enough to enjoy retirement with his beloved wife and see his grandkids. What an epic run for him
Mark my words, he’ll go the “My Next Guest Needs no Introduction,” route with his own show doing *something,* it just won’t necessarily be Late Night. Often felt like a waste of Colbert in many ways anyway.
But I would highly doubt he’s truly *retiring* retiring.
This doesn’t make sense – Colbert is consistently at the top of the late night ratings

I think Stephen will end up doing a show somewhere else.
