I never understand why this is the hill social conservatives choose to die on.
This is where this young student feels comfortable. She is actively participating in an extracurricular activity. Let her do it lol. Even if the concern about „competitiveness“ was a valid one, that is less important than health and wellbeing promotion for our youth. This is not pro sports

Honestly I think the government at all levels should stay out of this completely. The league’s can run themselves however they want. It is ridiculous for government to be involved in sports.
I feel like these things always target biological males transitioning to female. They completely fall apart when you force a female to male to compete in a woman’s league. You think it’s fair to women to play against someone who has been juicing testosterone for years? It just doesn’t make sense.
I have friends who fall under that category, and he can more than compete with the males after a few years of hormone replacement. To force him to play with the women is an interesting choice.
My apologies to the mods and others for posting this because I know it attracts bigots and rule-breakers and adds to the workload for the team.
It’s interesting to see the immediate tone of the anti-trans comments here, if only as a way of identifying the bad faith flimsy arguments and getting a sense of why these people believe and behave the way they behave.
In this story we have a 15 year old kid who is non-binary and experienced pre-puberty androgyny, and yet we have anti-trans commenters talking about trans women (who Riley is not) and their biological advantage from going through a male puberty (which Riley did not) and then using it to argue that there’s a major risk of injury to others by allowing a 15 year old to play community softball.
Their insistence here is that this kid should play on a boys team instead. Because you know, ‘safety.’ They don’t seem to care that a non-binary kid that experienced pre-puberty androgyny playing with boys would in fact not just be demeaning and cruel, but also actually a possible safety issue.
The arguments fall apart fast because they’re flimsy. They’re not borne out of true concern for anyone, they’re based in hatred.
Girls can join guys teams, especially fucking baseball. Taking the hobby of one person and replacing it with admonish someone for their gender???
Literally what do they expect these kids to do other than becoming *extremely* resentful?
Good example of the CBC advocating for the identity politics side of a controversial issue. I love the CBC, but they have adopted a position of only listening to activist leadership on identity issues that have a maximalist interpretation of rights for their group.
