President Donald Trump denied he was preparing to fire Jerome Powell after reports that the sacking of the Federal Reserve chair would be imminent.
Trump blasted the Central Bank chief in the Oval Office on Wednesday but denied he would fire him.
“No, I’m not talking about that,” the president said. “We get to make a change in the next eight months or so, and we’ll pick somebody that’s good.”

And before long he’ll just introduce ANOTHER mess to talk about until nobody (including his base) remembers Epstein.
Firing Powell essentially sinks his economy first ship. Theres no way anyone can take him seriously after that. Right now there is a veneer of functionality because Powell is making decisions and not trump, so trump can blame Powell as a scapegoat for all the bad he pushes out. However everyone knows that if Powell is pushed out hes gonna get replaced with a sycophant yes man. He did it with the feds, he did it with his pr team, he did it with his diplomatic team, he did it with doge, its yes man all the way down. Once Powell is replaced with a yes man the economy can only sink because Trump is first and foremost bad with his money and sees other peoples money as just disposable income.
Trump wants someone to lower interest rates to compensate for his tariffs. But Powell won’t do it because inflation is starting to run off again. I think Trump doesn’t believe it’s possible to destroy American with bad economics. This man may single handedly destroy the US, not just from the constitutional point of view, but weaken the US to the point of its downfall. USSR couldn’t do it. CCP couldn’t do it. But a really narcissistic US citizen can. Destroyed from within, in a nation where everyone thinks they’re smarter than the other guy, but everyone is stupid here.
He sees inflation rising, and it’s only going to get worse. So he will do anything to distract, even if his actions are counter to the health of the economy. He’s a fucking moron is what I am trying to say.

There is no ‚chickening out‘. The president does not have the authority to dismiss the fed chair. He „backed down“ from something he never had the power to do.
He may as well have claimed he was going to ressurect JFK or walknacross the potomac.
Just reading the headline….he can’t chicken out of something he can’t do anyway….he never had the power to fire Powell.
Him telling Newsom he was going to arrest him, Newsom calling his bluff, then Trump immediately backpedaling might be my favorite moment of his presidency. He hates it when people stand up to him.

He does not have the Constitutional authority to „fire“ Powell. The only way he can remove him is for cause, and that has to be more than „I disagree with him, or he disagrees with me“. Not that Trump ever follows the law, but we shouldn’t pretend he can do what he says when he does not have the authority to actually do it.
He can’t really “chicken out” of something he doesn’t have the power to do. He can shout, and stamp his feet, and bloviate all he wants…but the fact remains that he quite literally *CAN’T* fire Jerome Powell.
All this just distraction helps Trump move on from the Epstein stuff.
Maybe it’s just me… but can we stop trying to bait Trump into doing terrible things when he folds out of doing them in the first place?
Trump literally does not possess the authority to do so, and if he tries, Powell should just stay right where he is.
Being a jelly-livered coward is actually Trump’s least bad quality, and the only remaining check and balance on his impulse to do the worst possible thing in every situation.
