Because that’s what we needed, to start ANOTHER war.

I get why we didn’t exactly trust the former terrorist who wasn’t giving us a lot of good signals but jesus christ, people.

Surely this will help the Syrian government maintain a monopoly on force and crack down on sectarian infighting. That’s sarcasm. It will do the opposite and can only further destabilize the regime and region.

The Americans (at least Rubio) are already calling this out.

Bibi wants to cause a major war in the Middle East by all means, and drag the USA to put boots on the ground and win the war in their name, granting them territory and the fog of war to completely cleanse the Palestinians.

I am really really skeptical of the wisdom of Israel starting a new war with Syria. The reporting on sectarian violence against the Druze community is not very thorough yet, and Israel has been looking for reasons to justify their seizure of more Syrian land. I don’t know of any evidence that attacks on minorities are centrally directed, and weakening the new Syrian regime creates more chaos for extremists to exploit, it doesn’t protect minorities.

How many Druze were killed by Assad during the war? Israel did not intervene then. Intervening now smacks of opportunism. Do Syrian Druze really want Israel to invade their country to protect them? Israel used the same rhetoric about the Iranian opposition to justify their war on Iran, but no Iranian opposition genuinely supported the war, and we learned later that they killed dozens of prisoners and their families in their strike on Evin prison. And does Israel have the right to violate the sovereignty of its neighbors whenever they choose?
