Dieses Mal muss ‚Nation Building‘ indigene Völker einschließen – dies ist keine Bedrohung. Es ist eine Realität: Die Tage, in denen er versucht hat, über indigene Länder und Rechte zu beenden, sind vorbei. Meinung | Von Don Kelly
This time, ‘nation building’ must include Indigenous Peoples

No one is stopping 2% of Canadas population from being involved in doing what is best for 100% of Canadas population.
What treaty obligations are being violated with Bill C-5? I haven’t seen any specifics and since the legislation isn’t concerning a specific project I don’t see how it could. If they’re asking for a veto on any legislation that could impact Indigenous concerns at all then they’re asking for a blanket veto on most legislation, including budgets. That’s not a reasonable demand and would it practically mean the death of Canadian parliamentary democracy. Governments could fall due to a single band demanding concessions and the average voter would have no say in government. How could anyone justify taxing people in this situation? Why bother voting when it won’t matter? It seems completely impossible to justify.
There is a rule about only having one article per topic in this sub but it seems like a new article on this topic is posted hourly
Bill c-5 in no changes the governments responsibility to consult indigenous groups. This is all reflexive outrage.
It’s also crazy this is coming at the same time many first nations are demanding more money, others raising concern over potential government cuts to spending, while many others planning to protest and fight any developments….
Whenever I read articles like this, my initial reaction is to do a google search for the author and I inevitably end up [wondering about their blood quantum.](https://naccnaca-biographies.s3.amazonaws.com/34080/donkellyheadshot__square.jpg)
I’m inclined to dislike this kind of bluster – to be less flattering, you might call it extortion – but I’m even less inclined to tolerate it from people who are even paler than my white ass.
If they accept that Canada is one nation and one land, they’ll be a part of it. If they refuse this, then they are responsible for building their own nations and Canadians will build theirs. We know who will succeed.
