Could help a bit I guess. It would probably just be the MOCA or something similar that even Trump was able to pass though. Person, woman, man, camera, TV. It might be able to filter out the extreme outliers like Feinstein who was essentially braindead, but I could see Biden, Fetterman, Grassley, etc all being able to pass a brain damage test. 

There’s a reason literacy tests were banned by the Civil Rights Act of 1965. This will be and has been abused.

Honestly I kinda agree, same with having a maximum age limit for congress since it’s getting more and more obvious that it’s rare that any aging politicians actually seem to understand any of the problems facing younger generations

Why not cognitive tests for anyone working for the government in a position of power? In fact, instead of hiring off nepotism, maybe the government should adhere to some sort of standards when hiring people. Maybe then we wouldn’t have an entire DoD and DoJ fail to do their job.

Just don’t vote for old or stupid candidates. It’s your fucking responsibility to elect good, clear minded politicians.

I hope the test is a lot harder than “Person. Woman. Man. Camera. TV.”

You’d think young Republicans would want it too, given how bitterly they complain about senility in aging democrats. But they have no principles whatsoever, so I’m guessing they don’t.

Do we need cognitive tests or do we need voters to pay attention?  I realize the latter is apparently impossible to get,  but we’re never going to do better as a country if we clearly can’t be bothered to do the most basic civic duty of paying the fuck attention.

The ageism of the Democrats is noteworthy. The test is the ballot box. That is the test that matters.

Ironically enough, a 36 year old from Washington State who votes pro-Trump most of the time, and still calls herself a „Democrat“ is probably the first person who should get a cognitive test.

Because she’s pretty much in the same category as John Fetterman. But at least we know about his documented medical issues. What’s your excuse, Marie?

I have to take a test for maintain a professional licensure… and share proof of yearly continuing education.

Maybe they need to at least be able to pass a 6th grade civics test?

This is a bad idea. Those test only show severe cognitive issues at that moment. My grandmother has dementia and keeps passing them. Then they can rightly say they are fine the tests proved it.

Cognitive tests for ALL members of congress.

I just feel like that anyone who isn’t at least 20 years younger than the average life expectancy shouldn’t be holding political office. If they’re so awesome then great they can get appointed as advisors or something.

But if you don’t have a WHILE to live with the consequences of your decisions, you shouldn’t be making them for everyone else.

I’d love to see some kind of civic test given to candidates depending on what the position they’re campaigning for is (like obviously not the same for a coroner)…..but that if you want to hold office you need to demonstrate that you have some fucking clue how government WORKS.

We have a massive disconnect in that regard, it’s showing and we need to fix the issue in future after we survive this shitshow.

This would be amazing if we can convince them to adopt it.

Term limits would be a better option You come in, serve your 8 years, then you go and make room for the next people. That stops the politicians who just refuse to retire.
