    1. > The Looper director also remembered being pretty harsh toward George Lucas‘ trilogy of prequel films upon their initial release between 1999 and 2005. „I was in college when the prequels came out,“ he said. „My friends and I were Prequel Hate Central. Everyone was ruthless at the time.“

      > „Now the prequels are embraced,“ he said. „I’m not saying that as a facile, ‚Oh, things will flip around in 20 years, you’ll see!‘ It’s more that this push and pull, and this hatred to stuff that seems new, this is all part of being a Star Wars fan. Culture-war garbage aside, I think that essential part of it is a healthy part.“

This coming from a guy who killed Luke Skywalker for no reason or explanation.

    3. Tbf, tons of people hated the prequels lol. They only started getting more general appreciation in recent years.

I was still young (8ish years old) when Episode 1 came out and I loved it lol. People seem to forget that these movies were intended for a younger audience. Jar jar binks is hilarious when you’re 8 xD

Fair enough, this was very normal for people before the sequels. Watch The Force Awaken’s reviews when it came out, a lot of them shat on the prequels.

Read the article and the dude once again proves he’s just a normal well rounded guy and yet jaded adults will never stop seething at him across the internet lol

Tbh, all of us from that era were haters on the prequels. Lucas took a wide open, mythological feast, and stuffed it into a weird sock that no one really liked. I remember seeing Ep1 on mushrooms, on opening day, and wanting to cry it was so bad; don’t get me wrong, parts were great, but leaving the thearer was the best part. Watching what Lucas did to my childhood fantasy was an abomination. I think what I, and many like me thought was, WE could have done much better.

I think he also wasn’t a massive fan of episode 4 to 6 either to be honest.
