I have been in Luxembourg for three years and I think Luxembourg city improved a lot regarding this, I noticed a lot of difference in terms of cycling infrastructure. There is still a lot to do to reach the major Europeans cities standards but still, it’s going in the right direction!
„Part one“ Is cycling from Luxembourg to Esch sur Alzette such a big task that it requires multiple videos? I have done that lots of times.
I mean… it’s in the works, there’s already a cycle lane/tram project to link belval-esch-luxembourg. In the past years they’ve linked Esch and Belval with a separate bike path which now extends to the entrance of Esch and they’re constantly digging along the A4.
It’s a known issue that’s being actively worked on.

There’s been plans to expand the tram line and cycle lane from Belval to Esch to Cloche d’Or for a few years already

Tbh between Lux and Esch is fine already, there’s some absolutely beautiful routes on the way. What always sucks are the transitions like right before entering luxembourg. But I don’t think ppl will commute by bike between Esch and Lux because it’s like 90 minutes, and the ppl that would be willing to do that with better infra, are willing to do it now on current infra. They should focus on the cities
And Luxembourg tends to half-ass their cycles lanes a lot. Already they took ages to do anything after the Velodukt in Esch (when they actually got to it they built a cycle lane really quickly), but we end up with something poorly thought out and kinda slower. Now when I take Rue du canal if I want to follow the cycle lane I have to cross the street twice because the cycle lanes disappears, and you have to ride on a restaurant terrace between the tables. One side of it is on the sidewalk and basically nobody cycles there because of all the big bumps and because cars at intersections can’t see you. Imo they’ve made it slower and less safe for both cars and bicycles. The cycle lane on Bd prince Henry is really good and needed tho
There’s been insane work but comparing to other countries, the finitions always feel poor. Cycle lanes always have bumps as you get on and off the sidewalk, and you do that constantly so it’s often less annoying to just ride on the road. Sometimes cycle lanes just end and dump you nowehere. It kinda just annoys me that bike lanes are never given the same level of concern as car lanes. Feels like urban designers just think „oh the bike lane can just cross at that zebra crossing“ and don’t realise that between taking a cycle lane with 4 red lights and a car lane that has 0, most people will take the car lane, so the cycle lane just serves as a way to remove them the right to be there. Basically they’re being built to benefit cars, not to benefit bike
Anyway I kinda ranted a bit but there’s that
