Reps. Ocasio-Cortez and Neguse have previously partnered on efforts to enact legislation to prohibit Members of Congress from trading stocks.
Seems like this should be a basic anti-corruption measure.

Agreed. Most of Congress at this point are grifters who used being a politician as part of their grift, not civil servants who became grifters after serving in Congress. This will make it so that only people dedicated to civil service are attracted to the job.

Your average shmuck would get sent down for insider trading if they pulled half the scams that politicians do.
It’s almost like governments need a set of checks and balances to stop them running their country (and in America’s case the world) into the ground.

I would assume it would be considered a violation of free speech by the courts. Lobbying is sort of difficult to define. What’s the difference between expressing a political opinion and doing so on behalf of a corporation? Also, said corporation could just muddy the waters by lobbying the ex politician with gifts with an assumption they would lobby a current politician without explicitly stating it. I feel like receiving gifts, selling books, or trading stocks should be heavily regulated for politicians and ex politicians. I think that’s technically fully constitutional.
