Oh boy can’t wait for it to increase despite no points, no accidents, no claims etc

I moved to a new area and thought it would knock my car insurance down as it’s a quieter area.  The last place has boy racers on a nearby dual carriageway constantly flipping their cars over, plus people trying car doors virtually every night.  Car insurance renewal came round, I gave them my new address and (over the phone) they quoted me over £100 extra due to the change of area.  They said there must be a higher level of accidents and car thefts in this area, which has bumped up the cost.  I said I didn’t believe it.   So I went online and got another quote and the same company was now offering me nearly £100 lower with my new address.

How obvious do they want to make it that they use any excuse to bump up their prices.

Car insurance has been an unregulated scam for as long as I can remember.

I was in a traffic jam, someone reversed into me… no damage at all…. Didn’t need repairs but reported it to my insurer. They have been using this as an excuse to ramp up my insurance as me reporting it means I’m more likely to report stuff this more of a risk… have insurers

Seems the banning of whiplash claims hasn’t filtered through yet.

My renewal quote came through with a 94% increase. No accidents in last 5 years, 7 years no claims discount and over 25 years old.

After doing some quotes elsewhere it was actually the cheapest price I could get as the second cheapest quote was actually a 188% increase over my previous year’s insurance.

    Absolute joke

The current scam bumping up our premiums are the credit hire agreements. You know, when you are in a non fault crash and you get people (sometimes your own insurance) offering you ‘free’ hire car whilst yours is damaged? They do it on credit, with eye watering daily rates many times greater than you would find the car elsewhere, charged to the at fault party.

Yea my car died on me last week. Engines kaput. Looking for a new car atm. Every quote is doubling my original price that I was paying, including same make and model car that I found. It’s a scam

Oh just to add I’ve got 13 years no claims

Seems I got lucky , my renewal has changed from 250 to 260 per year

I’ve just moved to Spain, I cannot claim my UK NCD in Spain as it cannot be transferred internationally. Even without NCD my insurance was half of what I was paying in the UK + I have added my wife who has just passed her driving licence onto my policy for just €100 a YEAR. UK insurance policy is a scam. Her policy alone in the UK would have been €2000

I just got my auto-renewal quote through and it’s down 10% on last year

My auto-renewal quote has actually gone down this year. First time I have ever seen a renewal quote cheaper than what I paid the year before. And this actually beats all of the comparison site quotes too.

    Cars make you poor.

Cars being materially and energetically intensive make them exceptionally exposed to inflation from shocks.

[Here’s a breakdown of why it’s so bad for cars specifically](https://www.reddit.com/r/unitedkingdom/comments/1adltc2/comment/kk34ovh/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button).

Anyone who wants low cost of living, low taxes, clean air, and a stable climate should be agitating for the end of our car-dominated transport status quo.

  14. Yeh mine jumped from £650 to £1150 with an additional year no claims.

I’m sure somebody will be in here to justify why that’s OK in a bit.
