having children in a flat that a normal worker can afford is stupid. it will send your quality of lofe to shit. its better to be homeless
i get it i really do, i could never do what i did in the past and afford a decent sized house for a family of 4 (to keep birth rate at least equal) today . Those houses in Sicily are cheap for a reason though. Unemployment, property tax etc. Plenty of Sicilians residing here would tell you how bad employment is over there.
My wife and I had one child and stopped for this exact reason – it’s just far too expensive here to have a family and give them a good quality of living whilst growing up.
Sure you can buy a house for 6-700k but your mortgage repayments are going to be close to 3k per month. For most people that’s out of budget already with both parents working full time jobs.
For that sort of money, and ability to earn that income, you’re far better off moving to other parts of Europe where salaries are higher and property costs are lower. In the UK you can live 40 mins outside London in a 5 bed house with huge garden for 700k. Commute to London and bring home 100k a year easily to afford this life.
Then factor in the extra childcare costs of that, the rising cost of food and clothes, the stagnant local wages etc. it quickly becomes a situation where you need to be making at least 100k a year here to support a family, but how many local businesses actually offer wages to support this?
It will all fall apart eventually and become a total disaster.
There is a reason people are not moving to Sicily though.
Honestly, I think Malta is cooked pretty bad.
It was hit by the high-skill migration thanks to iGaming/crypto industries, pushing all the prices up.
Now there is wave of low-skill migration pushing salaries for blue collar down to bottom.
Government is just focusing on extracting maximum amount of money from the situation instead of any serious effort to fix it.
All these factors combined with also small size and population of the country – Malta is super cooked. I’m not happy about the situation, but sure as hell I’m happy I’m in the iGaming crowd.
Yesturday I was talking to a friend from Sweden and I joked about moving there. With just over 200,000 euro you can buy a fair decent house with a garden. I was left speechless.
Whe need to build more homes that is the answer .
Also impossible to find spots in nursery or school everything is full before sperm even meets egg
You don’t need a villa to have kids. You could get a three bedroom apartment for 350k. Of course, in most countries you could do better.
to be fair none of that is true. people have lots of children when the women remain uneducated especially their sex ed. never has people said ‚oh you know i got everything in order it’s time to have children‘. it’s been hey let’s get down and have some fun and oops we had a baby.
Actually that’s just wrong.
Quality of life is inversely corelated with birth rates. I don’t think Bangladesh or Nigeria provide better conditions in generally than the UK. One reason for this might be that in safe conditions there’s less of a biological drive for multiple kids, since the probability that the first one will survive childhood is extremely large.
And I saw this post on Facebook and everybody is talking and talking about Indians, Nepalis and other non-white peoples
>
because it’s much easier and sensationalist to say there are 1000 new Indians arriving in Malta than, let’s say, 300 French, 500 Italians, 400 Hungarians etc. And it’s just an example.
