Carney is handling that buffoon perfectly. He gave him a win which he needed that cost us nothing. Im betting it wasn’t even in our budget regardless. Now there’s a decline in tariff nonsense and no more 51st state shit. Trump is a terrible negotiator. He needs public adulation only. Carney is playing him like a fiddle.

Anyone who thinks that „fawning“ over Trump in public is anything other than the tried, tested and true (thanks Canadian Tire!) art of buttering the ol‘ orange chucklefuck, has not been paying attention, has limited critical thinking skills, or is so in the tank for anything „anti-Liberal.“
Trump is the equivalent of an intellectual amoeba. Other world leaders know this, everyday people know this, and you can either try and talk sense to that single-celled organism, or you can do a little light fluffing to set the table and then go in for the kill behind the scenes.
Does it feel icky and gross to do so? You better believe it. Grosses me right out, but don’t hate the game. Carney, and the rest of the world are handling Trump the way Trump thinks he should be handled, but there’s no reach-around. Other world leaders are smart. Trump, and his administration, are definitely not.
I think we cannot take or see things piecemeal here. The DST was definitely a big concession, one that was probably already in the list of potential concessions. The real test will be once there is an agreement of some sort
I think if we negotiated with Trump like a Trump, it wouldn’t work.
Diversification is a long term strategy. We also need immediate solutions.

It’s so fucking weird to hear people complain about giving in and not implementing the DST when a year or more ago those same exact people were vehemently against any type of digital services tax…
TSX is up since Carney elected. Canadian dollar is up since Carney elected. Everything is peachy. Enjoy the summer.
I wish reporters would stop using words like Grits. I have to mentally translate it every time and it slows my comprehension flow.
Many Canadians are speaking out of emotions. Ultimately we need adults in the room and Carney is one of them. Do we want a win, yes but should we be difficult just to stick it to trump? No. Carney can make the deals to save jobs and negotiate as best we can at a high level while individual Canadians can vote with their wallet, buy Canadian, avoid US travel etc and have both elbows up while also managing a difficult situation. This isn’t a mistake but a calculated decision.
What was gained was the ability to simply keep playing the game. Trump will continue to do this with everything he wants because, for now, too much of our GDP depends on exports to the US. Won’t drop the digital services tax? Okay…negotiations are off indefinitely…and by the way…1000% tariffs on all Canadian made autos and autoparts software, pharmaceuticals and video games.
Just an FYI: DST was postponed and not cancelled. Also, DST was expected to bring in just over 2 billion annually, that’s pennies compared to other industries.
The last thing you want is tripping over dollars by chasing pennies.
There definitely appears to be liberal civil strife surfacing as government criticism, so it might be easy to dismiss. However, the reason this is taking root in the media is that Carney and his government have not communicated very well with Canadians on what these ‘negotiations’ entail or what they expect us to give up in order to placate a belligerent who follows no rules.
