Every other first world country, and almost all developed nations, have decoupled health insurance from work. This is how you know we are a third world country.

It’s not like being a field picker will provide you insurance. The problem is that while they use the promise of jobs to deport Hispanics, they’re ignoring the fact that actual good jobs are being hovered up by outsourcing.

With waves of layoffs and all kinds of publicity for how AI will replace jobs, and increasing concentration of wealth this almost literally means “make sure rich people find you useful making themselves richer, otherwise please die.” A very Ayn Randian view of the world.
Not everyone is healthy enough to work to death. After 47 years of working as a nurse my body is broken.
It’s a really shameful telling of how fucked the u.s is, where having health care is a luxury rather than a right like it is in some countries. Also what jobs, the ones that pay well enough to afford it, or actually provide benefits in the first place, are very difficult to get for many people. But my words fall on deaf ears because this administration and those that support it don’t give a fuck about rights or doing something to make life easier for anyone. The u.s is completely fucked.

What jobs??? The market is extremely competitive and user-unfriendly. Ghost jobs, lean staffing, nepo hires, outsourcing, and applicant tracking AIs have all made finding a job virtually impossible these days. People can send out a hundred applications a week and get not one reply. So I say again: *what jobs*???

Then pass legislation requiring all employers to provide health insurance regardless of size, with minimum standards for what’s covered and the rates.

I have a job that provides health coverage and I still end up paying out of pocket because I’m not going to the doctor enough to meet a deductible amount.
Many starter and low wage jobs don’t provide any sort of health insurance. So this is an empty recommendation

I have a job. I don’t make enough to afford below average health insurance, but I make too much to qualify for Medicaid. The expansion has a waitlist in my state, and they just lowered the total available spots as is.
America the only modern nation that cannot figure out how to provide healthcare for everyone living there.
This is hilarious, do these people not understand that many jobs do not come with health insurance? Why aren’t they going after Walmart (and other big companies) when some huge percentage of their employees are eligible for Medicaid?
A lot of companies don’t offer health insurance. A lot of companies will keep employee hours just under the amount needed to qualify for their health insurance. Getting a job is no guarantee of health insurance.
Do you mean all those gig economy jobs without health care or all the jobs paying $14/hour without healthcare? Just get ACA coverage, you say? You mean the coverage you are killing off? I’m sure we can afford private healthcare in the free market on $30,000/year and if not, we’ll have to go on Medicaid.

Medical students can no longer borrow enough money to go to medical school, so health insurance isn’t going to matter in a few years anyway.
Politicians (national level specifically) need do nothing more than win a „popularity“ contest, and they have cadillac level health insurance for life. Fuck these guys.

I graduated summa cum laude in college, also earning an additional award for being top of class in my degree program. I’ve got 10 years of experience as a software engineer and have led development teams for the past few years, delivering software and apps used by companies operating globally.
I got laid off in February, my role backfilled by offshore contractors within a few weeks. After 5 months and 200+ applications, each resume and cover letter tailored specifically to the job posting without making ChatGPT write them for me, guess how many interviews I’ve gotten?
2. And those were just the initial phone screening to talk with the recruiter. Both ghosted me after the first call, not even attempting to test my technical skills or deep dive into my resume.
So tell me, where are all these jobs we’re supposed to get? I can’t even get a job as a bartender, which I did full-time while in college, because they don’t want to waste the time hiring me so I would ultimately leave when I got an engineering offer.
So now I get to spend month after month, draining my savings and everything I built up in my career, all without health insurance because it costs too much to purchase privately.
I’ve been out of work since March. I’ve applied to hundreds of jobs. I’ve gotten 2 interviews. One employer ghosted me after the second round, another I’m waiting to hear back from. I’ve got maybe 2 months worth of unemployment left, which is about 2500 per month. I’ve got to support a family of 4 on that. I’m on my states Medicaid plan, and that’s the one thing keeping me from being completely desperate. That at least I have health coverage should something happen to myself or my family.
I’m fairly sane, I don’t own a firearm, and I wouldn’t do well in jail. But what do they think is going to happen when people keep getting pushed further and further? I mean, they’re hitting their own voters pretty hard too, and they’ve shown a propensity for violence. I guess their plan is to keep people so desperate they’re just too busy scraping by to revolt.

Tying access to healthcare to employment is the kind of monstrously barbaric thinking/policy that should shake people lose from the delusion that Capitalism is anything other than an immoral pyramid scheme that will always spiral toward authoritarianism and cruelty (for the sake of profit!!!) and will always service the needs/wants of the few at the expense of the many. They quite literally build political and judicial systems to enforce that ethos.

Insurance is a scam and never should be tied to your job Other developed countries can make universal healthcare work but the insurance companies are making too much money to ever want that to happen. It has also been a fact that universal healthcare is less expensive than the system we have now
