Sure, if they’re trying to do even worse in the next election. 85% of Canadians voted for either the centrist LPC or the centre-right CPC. This is not a country looking for far-left politics.

They already tried that with Jagmeet Singh, and it failed. Unless the NDP can count on running against a rapist or a Turkish foreign asset, this strategy will not work. The most likely strategy they will pursue is regaining strength in the West, which is the opposite of Mamdani.

This article has me struggling. I’m just going to sheepishly ask if we’re absolutely sure there are meaningful ideological differences between the Singh NDP and Mamdani?

Impossible for the NDP not to act like a DSA fan club at this point. Maybe they could try coming up with their own policies related to local Canadian problems using the actual powers and capabilities of the existing Federal government. Maybe we could try that instead of LARPing as Brooklyn socialists.

I’m not sure Mamdani style NDP leader is what would help the NDP comeback tbh. I’d argue that the NDP needs to move to the left economically to focus on helping the working class and the dwindling middle class while moving more to the centre on social issues. As that is what the blue collar/working class vote wants from my personal (obviously anecdotal) experiences working in a heavily unionized healthcare facility in Oshawa where the staff traditionally has a been a bastion of NDP support.
Support for the NDP is (federally anyways) is no longer a real force at work with the only real group of staff supporting the NDP being the university educated upper middle class administrative staff.
I’m not sure a socialist is what the working class base wants nor do I think a social activist leader will help the NDP either. The average blue collar voter where I work are focused on bread and butter issues like cost of living, housing, healthcare and immigration, as well as being staunchly patriotic, fairly uninterested in Palestine v Israel, and the social cause of the day.
That’s my two cents anyways.

People are reading way, way, WAY WAY WAY too much into a New York City primary. Like, its impressive what he pulled but lets start coming back down to earth here people.
Unless you’re new to this, its common knowledge that New York hates its mayors like France hates its Presidents. This guy’s name will be mud by 2027 if he even wins the general, which is likely, but not guaranteed.
Lets breathe a little here. Yes he won a primary, but he isn’t mayor yet, and then the real work starts. NYC is notoriously difficult to govern and basically no one gets out alive politically.
